Chabahar will replace the ports of Karachi and Dubai |

In a meeting with the managing Director of Chabahar FTZ during his two-day visit to the region, the Afghanistan Envoy to Iran said: “Due to its proximity, economical interest and high security this region will replace the ports of Karachi and Dubai in the near future.”Mohammad Yahya Maaroofi added: “The readiness of facilities and necessary infrastructures in the Chabahar Free Trade Zone and its proximity to the Indian Ocean can bring Afghanistan closer to the world.” He reiterated: “The two countries of Afghanistan and Iran have a lot in common as far as culture, history and religion are concerned, which can constitute a basis for economical ties.”The Afghan Envoy stressed: “Once the Delaram-Zaranj access road is complete, Afghanistan can become an attractive option for distribution and re-export of goods to Central Asia for the Chabahar Free Trade Zone.”
Mohammad Yahya Maaroofi added: “The idea of a joint Task Committee for Afghanistan and Iran is a good one and we welcome it. This would remove the issue of mutual cooperation from theory towards a more practical phase.”Describing the Chabahar International University as a special feature of the Chabahar FTZ, he added: “The Chabahar International University is among our main interests, which in addition to trade and economical issues can play an important role in training human resources.”The Managing Director of Chabahar FTZ also said: “Chabahar offers great potentials for investment, transit, transportation and East–West Corridor, and can portray a bright future in this respect.”Dr. Mohammad Taher Bagherizadeh pointed to the different economical agreements signed since the year 2003 between the two countries and added: “We have targeted a number of countries such as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, etc on the path between Afghanistan and central Asia, and these agreements can be expanded to multi lateral ones.” He continued: “The job market in Chabahar needs manpower, and by legalizing the issue through the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Afghani workforce can be employed in a regulated manner.”During his two-day trup, the Afghani Envoy visited the port facilities, cargo warehouses and the different sections of Chabahar FTZ.
